Simple Scarves

I am really trying to find the time to take pictures of the scarves that I have made......

I have found two absolutely simple designs, I'm keen to try and make both the scarves. Now I just have to find the time to complete them and take pictures.

Work in progress.....

Tuesday 1 October 2013

Stained Glass Scarf

I completed the scarf.

Hook : 4.5 mm
yarn : 4 ply acrylic
pattern by designed by Melinda Miller

what I did different....
I started with chain 285 and made 5 rows of different colors.
Ended the scarf  with a row of sc on the short side of the scarf and did not add a fringe or beads.

Crocus Scarf but different

I started the Crocus Scarf according to the design by Laura Rintala.
I used :- Yarn: 4 ply acrylic
Hook: 4 mm

Ch 315, turn.

Row 1: Dc in 4th ch from hook and in each ch across—313 dc.
Row 2: Ch 3 (counts as dc), 2 dc in first dc, *ch 2, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc,
ch 5, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc, ch 2, sk 3 dc, 5 dc in next dc; rep from *
24 more times, ch 2, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc, ch 5, sk 3 dc, sc in next
dc, ch 2, 3 dc in top of turning ch (tch), turn.
Row 3: Ch 4, (counts as dc, ch 1), sk first dc, dc in next dc, ch
1, dc in next dc, ch 2, *sc in ch-5 sp, ch 2, [dc in next dc, ch
1] 4 times, dc in next dc, ch 2; rep from * 24 more times,
sc in next ch-5 sp, ch 2, [dc in next dc, ch 1] 2 times, dc in
3rd ch of tch, turn.
Row 4: Ch 5 (counts as dc, ch 2), sk first dc, dc in next dc, ch
2, dc in next dc, *[dc in next dc, ch 2] 4 times, dc in next
dc; rep from * 24 more times, [dc in dc, ch 2] 2 times, dc
in 3rd ch of tch.
Row 5: Ch 3, *2 dc in ch-2 sp, dc in next dc; rep from *
across.

{I stopped following the pattern at this point. Instead of repeating rows 2-5 once more, I repeated rows 2-5 on the foundation chain. I still haven't added the edging. I'm trying to decide if I should increase the width or add edging and end the scarf}

Rep Rows 2–5 once more; do not turn.
Edging: Rotate to work along short end (row edge) of scarf.
Set-up row: 3 dc in ch-3 sp, 17 dc evenly across short end, turn.
Row 1: Ch 5, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 4, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc,
ch 2, sk 2 dc, 5 dc in next dc, ch 2, sk 3 dc, sc in next dc, ch
4, sk 2 dc, sc in next dc, ch 4, sc in top of last dc, turn.
Row 2: Ch 2, sc in ch-4 sp, ch 4, sc in next ch-4 sp, ch 2, dc
in next dc, ch 1, [dc in next dc, ch 1] 4 times, ch 2, sc in
next ch-4 sp, ch 4, sc in next ch-4 sp turn.
Row 3: Ch 2, sc in next ch-4 lp, ch 2, dc in next sc, [dc in
next dc, ch 2] 5 times, dc in next sc, ch 2, sc in next ch-4
sp. Fasten off.
Join yarn with sl st to corner of opposite short end. Ch 3, 19
dc evenly across rem sts of short end, turn. Rep edging Rows
1–3 for opposite end. Fasten off. Weave in loose ends. Block
lightly according to yarn label directions.

Day 46 - Star stitch scarf

I learned the start stitch yesterday. I have started working on a scarf using the star stitch.
Wow such a beautiful stitch and it is so easy.....

I'm using a 6mm hook.
STS = star-stitch; sc5tog so we pull up 6 loops on hook, pull thru, ch1

Make the foundation chain a multiple of 6
Chain 24
ROW 1 =  make 7 STS ; HDC in last; CH2 turn (now here the first star is a simple sc5tog but for the remaining stars it is best to watch the youtube tutorial)
ROW 2 = 2 HDC in center CH of STS across (should be 7 sets of HDC); HDC in last; CH3 turn;
REPEAT ROW 1, then ROW 2 till done

The pages that helped me are as below:

I couldn't stop ....... and I finished making the scarf!

Day 36

Hubby dearest convinced me that the colors used for last scarf were good and that I should try and complete it. So I spent a lot of time last night trying to finish it.

Here is a picture of  the progress....

Unfortunately I'm not sure. if this how the scarf should look and feel......

I used 4 ply wool and 5 mm crochet hook. The scarf at this point feels nice and thick, it will be a nice scarf to wear on a cold day.

Day 35 - Scarf No. 5

The past 8-10 days have been complete chaos.
My sweet little daughter refuses to sleep at night! She has been sleeping thru the days and stays up entire nights. So, I am up all nights but don't have the energy to do much.
I had tried starting on a new scarf but the progress I made on the scarves wasn't satisfactory :-(

I first tried a pineapple design, I wasn't happy with the colors I had selected so after making a few motifs I started again with another color. But with the second color I wasn't happy with the way the stitches looked. So, I just gave up.....

I started on another pattern, so far I have tried 2 color combinations. I am unhappy with the way they look, so I'm ready to give up again!

I am happy to blame this on sleep deprivation, maybe this really is the reason for not picking the right colors that would compliment each other and the pattern.

Now I have 3 scarves which I had started working on but will not be completed.

I have already used the wool that I had used for the very  first pineapple pattern scarf to make baby booties.

The colors I had used were a double color yarn - yellow and orange and rust/brown colored worsted yarn. This was supposed to be a nice bulky scarf. But the colors were totally killing the pattern and the beautiful pineapples were just drowning in the color that I had selected.

I should have taken a picture just so that I could remember my mistakes and not repeat it again.

Day 25 - Scarf No. 5

I am finally starting on my fifth scarf. The last few days were not so good. I was in pain due to RSI, my wrists were hurting.

Sunday 18 August 2013

Day 18 - RSI

How can the pain develop so suddenly and be so severe?

No crochet for atleast 2 days :-(

Sunday 11 August 2013

Day11 - Scarf No. 3, Sabrina Scarf

Scarf number 3 half done. As always hopeful that I will get some time tonight to work on it some more.

Tuesday 6 August 2013

Day 6 - Scarf No.2 Modulation Scarf

I have started working on my second scarf.

So far I think 3/4th of the scarf is pending. Let's see if I manage to continue working on it tonight...
At this rate, I will need at least 250 days to make 50 scarfs
:(

Monday 5 August 2013

Day 5 - Scarf No.1 Lotus Flower Lace Scarf

I managed to take a couple of pictures but only one was of decent quality to be uploaded.
So here it is!

My little one, who is just nine months old now, wants the camera; so it is kind of a struggle ;) to hold the camera steady.
I used a 5.5 mm size hook and 4 ply ie.Worsted Weight Yarn for this scarf.
This is a free pattern by Amanda Watson. Free Pattern Link

The pattern instructions are written so well that I do not see the point of  re-writing or copy-pasting it here.
Only advise is if you were to take a print of the pattern then high light the rows where you have to join to the petal of the previous motif. So, we would high-light Rows 7 & 8 for Motif 3. The pattern is very easy so by the time you have made a few motifs you will remember the sequence of crochet stitches. I got carried away with crocheting and forgot to join the motif a couple of times. So I wasted time reading the pattern and redoing my work. Haha so learn from others mistakes. ;)

Day 3 - Scarf No.1 Lotus Flower Lace Scarf

I wanted to do a lot of things today but didnt manage to do anything :(

The scarf is still incomplete.... just half of it is done.

Let tomorrow be a better day... please.

Day 2 -Scarf No.1 Lotus Flower Lace Scarf

So far so good! I managed to find the time to work on the scarf today.

I will continue working on it for a few hours tonight. Tomorrow I want to take some better pictures. ;-)

Day 1 -Scarf No.1 Lotus Flower Lace Scarf

I started working on my first scarf today. I will try to make 50 scarfs in 50 different patterns!
For my first scarf I have selected a pattern called 'Lotus Flower Lace Scarf'.
So far I have managed to find time to make only one flower. On the bright side I managed to start on a scarf! :-)

50 different scarves

I watched Julie & Julia today. While watching the movie I realized that just like Julie, I need a goal or a time frame. I also start projects and don't complete them. Things that I want to do get added to a long term to-do list but get pushed to a later start date and most of the time get forgotten..... never get to start working on them.
So to keep things simple I want to start with crochet, I want to make 50 different scarves in ..... should I give myself a time frame? I am a home maker, a mother of a 10 month old baby and have minor health issues that don't go away like allergies and migraines and sinus. So a time frame feels like a bad idea, 'coz if I don't finish the scarves in time then I will feel worse than better.
So, in the spirit of keeping life simple and enjoying things rather than feeling pressurized ..... I will make 50 scarves in 50 different patterns.
No, I will not embark on a cooking adventure. I find creating things with crochet more relaxing.

;-)

colors, crochet and cooking..... a begining

I love colors, I like crochet and I want to be a better cook ...... so colors, crochet and cooking.
When I search online, for crochet patterns or for recipes, I find too many results. Most of which are easy to make, I get excited and want to try the new pattern or the recipe but get caught up in daily chores and soon forget about them.
With so many people sharing their recipes and crochet creations for free, it has become so easy for me to just sit at home read and learn new things. I don't have to go to a bookstore to buy books or join cookery or hobby classes.

I want to save these links here, I want to find the time to make new things in crochet, try new recipes and share these patterns and recipes with everyone with similar interests.
